Global Highlights with Luzette King is designed to provide information through, as much as is possible, live interviews on matters of global significance.   These interviews will focus on global activities that include but are not exclusive of politics, economics, law, culture and sociology in the United States and Canada, the Middle East, Europe, Former USSR, East Asia, South Asia, Latin America, Africa, Australia and the Pacific, Global Organizations and the contribution of significant individuals.  

Global Highlights is the offspring of Obama Update from Luzette King which was a weekly five-minutes-to-nine report on Nice Vibes hosted by Ferand ‘Randy D’ Dopwell on niceradio.org which is located in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, an independent nation of 150 square miles with a population of approximately 120,000.  Obama Update from Luzette King was launched on Saturday, June 14, 2008, days after Democratic Presidential candidate won the Democratic primary and lasted until Saturday, December 19, 2009.  The purpose was to follow the development of this historic event and to provide information from Washington, District of Columbia. 

Given that Obama Update from Luzette King was the first regular, live international report to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, it had become very popular.  However, the general view among its listeners was that the report was too focused on the United States and its President and not enough about other parts of the world, especially the Caribbean.  From this initiative came strong empirical evidence of a need for information from a wider perspective of the world, especially from that of a CARICOM standpoint.   Hence, the idea Global Highlights with Luzette King.

The new and improved Global Highlights with Luzette King will take the form of weekly telephone interviews lasting approximately twenty to thirty (20-30) minutes to discuss global issues that have an impact on the Caribbean, particularly Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.  Global Highlights with Luzette King will undertake research to determine issues that could have an impact on CARICOM nationals living in the region or in the Diaspora, particularly Vincentians.   To discuss these issues, Global Highlights with Luzette King will identify individuals of any nationality and/or representatives of organizations from any part of the world with whom interviews will be conducted.  These interviews will be conducted live or pre-recorded and transmitted via Nice Radio in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (FM 90.3, 96.7 and 101.3) and the worldwide web (niceradio.org) from any part of the world thus reflecting the theme Global Highlights with Luzette King.   Such wide-ranging interviews will provide an opportunity for Vincentians and other CARICOM nationals living in the region and the Diaspora to stay connected, share their experiences of life at home and in the Diaspora and maintain awareness of current affairs that affect them.   Above all, this initiative will satisfy the widely expressed need for current affairs reporting to CARICOM nationals from a wider perspective of the world particularly and especially from that of a CARICOM viewpoint.
